Buemi to test for Carlin in Barcelona

The World Series by Renault season kicks off today, with a two day official test at the Circuit de Catalunya in Barcelona. 19 year-old Red Bull driver Mikhail Aleshin will begin his second season with Carlin, whilst team mate Sebastian Vettel will be unable to attend due to F1 commitments

Vettel will be replaced by fellow Red Bull driver Sebastien Buemi for the second day of testing. Buemi, who finished fourth in last year’s Macau Grand Prix with Carlin, will also miss the first day of testing in Barcelona, due to an F3 Euroseries test.

The young Swiss driver is preparing for his second season in the European championship and also represents Switzerland in the A1GP series. Vettel, who will complete the role of reserve and test driver for the BMW Sauber F1 Team as well as racing with Carlin in World Series in 2007, is currently in Australia for the F1 season opener in Melbourne. The 2007 season marks a new era for the Carlin World Series team, which now operates out of the former Brabham F1 factory in Chessington, Surrey.

Team Principal, Trevor Carlin said, “After spending the winter moving factories, signing drivers and preparing the cars, its great to finally be back on track. We have two very experienced drivers in Mikhail and Sebastian and I’m confident that we will be strong contenders for the championship this season. Sebastian is busy fulfilling his F1 role and will miss this first test, but I’m delighted to give Buemi the opportunity to drive the car instead.” The Carlin team will return to the Catalunya Circuit for the final round of the 2007 season in October.
