BARCELONA INTERNATIONAL SUPERCROSS

The Barcelona Supercross is not a simple race where the riders compete for their interests only; it is much more than that. The SX of Barcelona has been creating and sharing enthusiasm, entertainment and emotion since 1989 with a faithful audience that year after year has warmly supported the competitors.

The riders congregating on the magic mountain of Montjuïc have known how to put aside their ambitions to create a new way of competing style enabling the audience to feel and experience, just like them, the joy disappointment and satisfaction.

There is a complete osmosis between the track and the stands that only the emblematic Palau Sant Jordi is able to create. The best Supercross riders in the world are present in Barcelona having become a classic date on the calendar. The Barcelona Supercross non-stop spectacle of almost three hours. Inspired by the races taking place in the United States, this event is very thrilling with intense races and all the necessary ingredients for spending a first class sporting afternoon with races, music, animation and jumps etc. The Barcelona SX is different from the classical classifying rounds, semi-finals and finals. It is replaced by the three full finals in each category.
The main attraction is the jumping competition where the best free-style specialists leave the spectators in Palau Sant Jordi awestruck.

18th International Supercross Movistar in Barcelona

WEY EQUALS McGRATH’s EPIC ACHIEVEMENT AT THE “PALAU

Nick Wey and Nate Adams turned out to be the big players in the 18th Barcelona Supercross. The former, because he won the supercross big final; the latter, because he has got crowned “king of the jumps” in the Xtreme Jump. Thanks to these two epic achievements, they conquered the victory, after giving a demonstration that the 13.200 people filling up the “Palau” will find hard to forget.

Nick Wey has been declared winner of the Barcelona Supercross last edition, showing evidence of why he is one of the best American biker at present times. With this victory, Wey, who will soon face a new season as KTM official racer, equals the mythical Jeremy McGrath in number of victories in Barcelona (3).

As for Benjamin Coisy, the big SX Tour exponent, he ended up second. However, the most interesting fight for a steps of the podium was between Heath Voss, one of the SX USA top 10 regular player, and Manu Rivas, the local super cross hero. A dual in which both were exchanging rankings during the race and which ended up favourable to the American who managed to keep Manu under control until the moment of crossing the finishing line.

Manu Rivas’ fourth rank might seem short as he began strongly the evening party and had real chances to win. The biker from Murcia had come back to the Barcelona Supercross completely motivated after his American adventure in which he participated to a pair of races in the US Championship. An experience that turned out to be an evidence in his coming back to the “Palau Sant Jordi” as he won clearly his qualifying heat and dominated entirely the semifinals’ second heat.

Customised jumps in the Xtreme Jump

He came with the idea of doing something big and ended up doing it. Nate Adams has been the most applauded freestyle biker in the Sant Jordi. Adams, a winner of a gold medal in the X Games, triumphed in the Xtreme Jump with a repertoire of breath-taking jumps that opened wide the gates of glory for him. A triumph with added value if we take into account that the American pilot won over six of the best prepared racers of the world.

This was because unless he was the big favourite, the others already had warned that they would not make it easy at all. This was the reason why Adams had to use his entire arsenal of tricks. Among them were outstanding the no hands back flip, the holly grab to bart attack, the Power Hammer and the cliff hand flip, that provoked total madness.

This perfect show limited the others to a competition for the second place. A second place that Dani Torres from Sevilla won whereas the third place ended up to the French biker Charly Pagès, one of the most promising future right now.
